Where’s Howard?

Howard is in the back of the photo in the shadow. Between Tom and Peter.

I have posted a collection of the land photos from the dive trip on Flickr.

Straws in Water

Posted by Simon

One of the little changes that has snuck (snuck is the passive past tense of sneak. It is not recognized by the Microsoft word dictionary) up on us is the last few years is giving out straws with water at restaurants. It seems to me that using straws when they are not needed is an environmental abomination. But how did it happen? Did the straw makers association convince the staff at restaurants that the customers want straws in their water glasses? Or did it just flow over from sodas? And don’t get me started on sodas, the American fat pill.

Rainbow Sandals

P2010002.JPG

Here is a free post card from the company that makes one of my favorite products. Rainbow Sandals. Lillian got me a few the last time she was there at the factory store. I would be happy to send you one if you ask…but supplies are limited.

I thought that I couldn’t wear sandals with the strap between my toes but Lillian raved about Rainbow Sandals and slowly convinced Nurit and Rebecca to try them. One year for my birthday or some other event she bought me some and to be polite I tried them. They are great, they don’t hurt between your toes at all and I can’t wait until summer to start wearing them every day. I now have three pairs. And now Rainbow has free postcards. Life can’t get any better than this.

Curacao 2

We have been on four boat dives so far.  Of course many of the Codgers have done many more dives.  Shore, night and dawn to name a few.

Frank took this seahorse picture.  Yes we saw one.

Lupitas

Posted by Simon

We took Nurit’s folks to Lupitas for dinner tonight. It takes less than two hours and helps us to keep in touch with them, it saves Oma from cooking one night and keeps us talking about all of the little things. If you are helping some older folks manage go to dinner once a week at a casual restaurant. Preferably one that is not to loud because there are often some hearing problems to deal with.

Lupitas is on the north east corner of Sierra Madre Blvd and Colorado in East Pasadena. It is our favorite Mexican Restaurant. I recommend the Huevos Rancheros.

Underwater Laser Pointer

Posted by Simon

This morning while packing for the dive trip I found a note from last years trip that said “underwater laser pointer!” It is a good idea. I looked on Leisure Pro (the best place to buy dive stuff) and found out that one exists but according to the reviews it is just not very good.

A good pointer would be very useful underwater. You could flash it at people to get their attention and then point at the very cool thing you wanted to share. The bad reviews didn’t make it clear whether the problem was design or execution. It might be that laser light dissipates to easily in water which is a design problem or that this model is not powerful enough an execution problem.

I may take along my laser pointer on this trip and try it sealed in a dry bag.

Simon Says

It looks like my management technique has been exposed.

People have always tended to do what I say.

Why?

Because they were conditioned from youth to do what “Simon Says.”
