Codgers Fiji 2011-5
Posted by Simon
So this is not my final post about the great diving trip to Fiji. I’m still going to do a post about my trip to the Coral Coast and another one about life and politics in Fiji. But this is the one with the long promised diving photos:
Rock and I sans regs
A clown fish in an anemone
Some other very beautiful fish
One of the Sharks
The group photo at the awards banquet
On the dive boat
There are more photos on Flickr click here
Thanks to Sean B and Gene B for letting me use their underwater photos. To see even better underwater photos and videos friend Frank McGinley on Facebook
Remember When
Posted by Simon
Do you remember back in 2007 when Senator Obama said:
“The President does not have the power under the Constitution to unilaterally authorize a military attack in a situation that does not involve stopping an actual or imminent threat to the nation.”
The quote is from the debate in the Senate when President Bush was trying to get Congress to approve his actions in Iraq. Senator Obama opposed that action and ran for the Democrat nomination as an antiwar candidate. How things change.
Spanx Improvement
Posted by Simon
Spanx are not girdles or corsets. Spanx are body shapers. And they are extremely popular.
The Codger Divers, with too much alcohol and time on their hands, came up with an idea for a Spanx line extension: “Spanx Depends.” Made for those who want to appear slim without the inconvenience of having to run to the bathroom all the time. Spanx Depends will be useful for those who are vain and incontinent and those who want to wear Spanx but might be going to a place where there is spontaneous laughter.

This year the elusive Red Sea Horse was found and photographed by Sean Burke. Betsy King and Sylvia Burke share the honor as co-discoverers.
The Red Sea Horse sighting in Fiji
The ruse was perfectly created by Simon’s great planting of the horse, Gene B’s excited discovery and Solo the divemaster’s figuring out what was going on and playing along. Codger Dive Trips are a time when we can all be in 8th grade again

Sunset at Wananavu
The tree in Rakiraki
The Fiji coast from the dive boat
Mike got ill enough to need to go to the clinic in Rakiraki the nearby market town. There is no tourism industry nearby so I am stuck buying postcards at the resort gift shop. Not a great selection and more than a dollar (US) each. The diving is very good and the company is great.
Yesterday we saw a 5′ reef shark and a school of barracuda. The reef is fascination. Crinoids and anemones with clown fish are the outstanding residents. Pictures to follow.
Personal Fallout Poncho
Posted by Simon
This product can be Sold on Television. The script would be something like this:
Prepare your family for the next nuclear threat. Now for the low price of only $19.95 you can have a iodine treated Personal Fallout Poncho. Don’t be left unprotected. These pure vinyl ponchos with metallic surfaces will keep help protect you from radiation generated by atomic bombs or nuclear power plant meltdowns.
Don’t be left without the first level of protection from fallout. Order now and get a second poncho free. You only pay shipping and handling.
Photo to follow.
This idea was generated by a group of very creative codger divers. It started as a personal fallout shelter made from a large treated corrugated box transformed a few times and ended up as the Fallout Poncho. It is great fun being creative.
Wisdom

This one is from Bill B. one of the Codger Divers:
“The difference between a magic trick and a miracle is that a magic trick is an illusion and a miracle is a delusion.”

Pay Dispute

When I first came to California in 1974 I earned about $1000 a month as the manager of a small factory. The various governments took about 25% of the money. Has the percentage changed?
First it needs to be adjusted for inflation and then compared to an equivalent job. Any help would be greatly appreciated.
