Maipu Cab
Posted by Simon
We have had some fun with the names of cabs in San Diego and Lillian had mentioned the elusive Maipu in a taxi post in February. Finally Heidi I. got a picture:
Read as three syllables Ma-I-Pu it sounds like May I Poo.
And the answer is no you may not.
Taxi Cabs

So my current obsession is the names of the independent cabs in San Diego. There are cabs that describe the ride you should have i.e. the “ASAP Cab”, the “Challenger Cab”, the Rumi Cab, and the “Happy Cab”. Of course, there are the traditional Yellow Cabs and Orange Cabs but there is also a “Black and White Cab”, which is red and the “Emerald Cab” which is blue. But my favorite, however, is the “Maipu Cab”. The answer to this question is not here! This obsession has me searching for it where ever I go and hoping to get a picture of it. (We actually turned around the other night when we spotted it but it was gone.) As soon as I get one I will post a picture of it. Does any other cities have such fun with cabs? If so I want pictures.

It has been a while since I posted something. My father asked me to fill in while he is diving with the Codger Divers next month, so I thought I better get a bit of practice. I am one of the people who checks this site along with many others daily and I thought I might link to some of my favorite finds this week.
Bad Street names. A little R rated, but a lot hilarious.
MentalFloss always is humorous and educational. Now if only I could come up with something useless sell.
Let me know if you know any other humorous finds
Torrey Pines State Preserve

Early spring is the best time to visit the Torrey Pines State Preserve. Even though it is located in San Diego City it is a very different seafront wilderness area. What a delightful surprise.
Lillian and I went for a four mile walk on the excellent trails at Torrey Pines on Monday.
We saw some amazing wild flowers as well as the pines, cliffs and ocean views that make the preserve so popular all year long.
To see a nice run of pictures I took on our visit to Torrey Pines click here.
Life Book

Lillian used the digital photos we all took on trip to the Galapagos Islands last summer and made them into a beautiful book.
She did it online using MyPublisher.com. She incorporated captions, the ships daily schedule and pictures from the ships log as well as the ones we took.
Any reasonably diligent person can build a book like this (this is where the business opportunity occurs) but you have to learn how and you have to practice. I believe there is a significant portion of the population who would like a beautiful, personal, photo memory book like this but don’t have the time or courage to get up the learning curve to get it done. If they could give a “Memory Reporter” the photos, some documents and an hour or so of their time to generate the flow and the captions they could get one of these wonderful books. I think of it as a reporter type job.
Events that you might buy a Life Book for:
- Family vacations
- Anniversaries (fiftieth)
- Big Birthdays to celebrate a life
- Wedding, with all of the ancillary parties
- Charity Events as a gift to the Honoree
The cost would be dependent on how much of effort went into it the production. But could be known in advance and calculated in advance from an online look-up table. It would be expensive but not out of reach for millions of families. I’m thinking in the $200 range. Most of the work would be done online with a phone call to add the captions. This is a big idea.
