Budd Lake

Posted by Simon

At the end of our trip East in September we went to visit Rebecca in Budd Lake. She has two lovely cats Belle and Evelyn.

Rebecca took a day off work and we went for a drive and a hike. We crossed the Delaware River at Dingmans ferry that now has a classic truss bridge.  The toll is collected by a man standing in the middle of the road.

Walking Tours with Dogs

Posted by Simon

This is a business opportunity idea that will be immediately obvious to people who have dogs and like to go on walking tours.

The idea is Country Walkers or Wayfarers for people who want to take their dogs with them on organized trips.  It would have vans, dog friendly Inns and a couple of dog walking or frolicking activities each day.  There are some towns that are billing themselves as dog friendly and they could be the focus of the tours.  Carmel, CA and Kennebunkport, ME come to mind.

We have been on tours with both of the above companies and both could easily organize a dog tour as a trial.

Humane Lobster Preparation

Posted by Simon

One night in Maine we had a Lobster Roast and a sunset cruise.  Both the cruise and the lobster were excellent and like everything in Maine picturesque.

Cruising for lobsters

One of the ladies dared to ask Captain Jim if they actually put live lobsters into boiling water.

Tony, Anne and Jim

Captain Jim is on the right

He answered without skipping a beat that yes they did but that they were very careful to kill the lobsters humanely. They accomplished this by putting them head first into the boiling water so that they died instantly.  We have found he said “that this is the most humane way to kill lobster.”  He went on to say that the head-first method “caused the lobsters less stress and pain than any other way of killing them.

I’m not sure how he knows this but remarkably he said all with a straight face.
